Apple is set to integrate the Shazam app to the upcoming iOS update, which will help the iPhone and iPad users determine what song they are playing at the moment, The Verge reports.
Sources with knowledge of the app who requested anonymity said that Apple is teaming up with Shazam Entertainment Limited for the integration of the latter's music identification app to the iOS software, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Despite the decline in song download sales, Apple continues to bolster its music offerings with the new Shazam app, which will match a song being played with an extensive database.
The sources also added that Shazam will be formally introduced as an iOS app at the launch of the iOS 8 at Apple's annual developer conference on June 2 in San Francisco.
One of the sources said that the Shazam app will be automatically integrated to the iOS software just like Twitter, and it can be activated via Siri, Apple's voice activated search feature. Spokesmen for both Apple and Shazam have yet to comment on the upcoming plans.
The integration of the Shazam app to the iOS could give the company a major boost in its sales. The London-headquartered Shazam currently has more than 90 million monthly users. Shazam CEO Rich Riley said that he and his fellow executives plan on entering the stock market.
Music has been a vital part of Apple's growth in the past years with the introduction of the iPod. Apple also developed music apps for iPhone and iPad users to enjoy like the iTunes.
With the resurgence of Youtube, Spotify and Pandora, Apple introduced iTunes Radio last year exclusively for users from the United States. Sources say that iTunes Radio could become available outside the country.
The source added that iTunes Radio could become a stand-alone app, but he later said that no decision has been made on whether Apple will push through with the plan or keep the iTunes Radio as an iTunes feature.
Apple also looks at the possibility of developing a subscription-based music service that will compete with Spotify, Rdio and Beats Music.
