Lenovo Announces the Thinkpad 10 Tablet

Lenovo has announced the latest addition to the company’s business product portfolio – the Lenovo Thinkpad 10 multimode business tablet.

“Customers want a versatile device that adapts to their way of life and offers uncompromised productivity whether in the office or on the move,” said Luis Hernandez, vice president and general manager, ThinkPad, Lenovo. “Our new ThinkPad 10 tablet marries business optimized features with a unique multimode design to offer an exceptional computing experience that allows users to work, play and create in virtually any environment. ThinkPad 10 is engineered for quality you can touch and measure and is designed to adapt to be what you need, when you need it.”

The Lenovo ThinkPad 10 features a full aluminum body and a Gorilla glass protected 10-inch full HD IPS display at a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also features n 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. On the inside, the ThinkPad 10 features an Intel Atom “Bay Trail” quad-core processor, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage (expandable via microSD), and up to ten hours of battery life. Connectivity options for the ThinkPad 10 include support for Wi-Fi and 3G/4G LTE. Consumers may also opt for a ThinkPad 10 with a digitizer pen included. The ThinkPad 10 will run on Microsoft’s latest Windows 8.1 Pro.

Lenovo is also releasing a slew of accessories for the ThinkPad 10 including a docking station that will turn the new tablet into a small all-in-one PC, a case with a Bluetooth touch keyboard similar to Microsoft’s Touch Case, a ThinkPad 10 Ultrabook keyboard with chicklet style keys, and a 10-inch version of Lenovo’s Quickshot cover which allows users to quickly take pictures even with the case on.

The Lenovo ThinkPad 10 will be available sometime in June at selected retailers. Prices for the new multimode business tablet start at $599. As for the accessories, the docking station will cost $119, the touch keyboard case will be sold $119, the Thinkpad 10 Ultrabook keyboard is priced at $129, and the Quickshot cover will have an SRP of $69.

CFO of Apple Inc. Peter Oppenheimer announced retirement

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Apple Inc Peter Oppenheimer announced his retirement on 4 March 2014. He planned to retire at the end of September 2014.

Corporate controller Luca Maestri will succeed him. 

Oppenheimer joined Apple in 1996 and has served as its CFO since 2004. Since then, Apple’s annual revenue has grown from 8 billion dollar to 171 billion dollar.

Luka Maestri is currently working as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller. He had previously served as CFO of Nokia Siemens Networks and Xerox (XRX). He began his career with General Motors (GM), working in finance and operating roles at the automaker for 20 years.

Tony Bates and Tami Reller are next to go

Change is the key word for Microsoft lately as it shakes up the executive ranks all the way up to CEO. Now, two more execs are reportedly leaving the company.

According to Fox Business, Tony Bates and Tami Reller are next to leave the company. Bates is the former Skype CEO in charge of Microsoft's business development and Reller is the co-head of Microsoft's Windows unit.

Bates is expected to leave the company immediately and for unknown reasons. Eric Rudder, head of advanced strategy, will temporarily take over Bates' duties until a permanent replacement is found.

Reller, on the other hand, will stick around at Microsoft for a little longer to help out with the transition.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is due to publicly announce the changes tomorrow, but has already sent out an internal memo to Microsoft employees regarding the shake-up last Friday.

Microsoft has seen many changes recently in the wake of a major restructuring process within the tech company. A major switch was former CEO Steve Ballmer's retirement and the appointment of Microsoft exec Satya Nadella, which occurred in late January.

In addition to Nadella's new appointment, it was confirmed that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates would be spending more time at the company once again as Founder and Technology Advisor. He stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Directors at that time.

Just a week ago, it was announced that Julie Larson-Green -- head of Microsoft's Devices and Studios Group who recently led Microsoft hardware development -- will become chief experience officer for the company’s Applications and Services Group. This means that Larson-Green will work with products like Bing, Office and Skype.

The Devices & Studios Group will be taken over by Stephen Elop, who is the former CEO of Nokia. Elop will take on this role as soon as Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia is complete (which should happen this quarter).

The Fox Business report added that Mark Penn, who was an executive vice president at Microsoft overseeing advertising and strategy, will become chief strategy officer.

The company continues with a restructuring process that was announced last year. The main goal behind the restructuring is unifying Xbox, Windows Phone and PC units, which shows that devices and services are the center focus.
